Color In The Garden

Yellow and gold are two of the most vivid colors in landscape plants. This edition of What Is Prime focuses on plants we carry
that have golden foliage. If you want to bring gold into your designs here are some (but not all) of the
plants in our nursery right now that feature this wonderful garden color.

Hinocki confucius

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Confucius'
(Confucius Gold Hinoki Cypress)

Bright gold new growth, medium green older growth presents a wonderful contrast. Only grows 10 feet tall with an 8 to 10 foot spread. Pyramidal form with feathery foliage and unique layered habit. Beautiful to begin with - absolutely striking as it matures!

Pictures taken in our yards on 6/22/10

Hinoki Crippsii Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Crippsii'
(Crippsii Golden Hinoki)

Strikingly bright new growth is especially prominent on top half of plant. Willowy, open, layered branches. Grows 15-20 feet tall and 10-15 feet wide, but is not particularly fast growing. Absolutely striking color, form and texture. One of our favorites - we have it in multiple sizes.

Pictures taken in our yards on 6/22/10

Golden Euonymus Euonymus japonica 'Aureo Marginata'
(Gold Edge Japanese Euonymus)

Bright gold edges surround green centers in each leave. Plant grows 4 to 5 feet tall and wide. Profuse white flowers in early summer. Flowers are small but showy up close. Prefers full sun.

Pictures taken in our yards on 6/22/10

Juniper Gold Lace Juniperus chinensis x pfitzeriana 'Gold Lace'

Pictures taken in our yards on 6/22/10

Gold Thread Cypress Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Filifera Aurea'
(Gold Thread Cypress)

Pictures taken in our yards on 6/22/10

Gold Star Juniper Juniperus chinensis 'Gold Star'
