The most popular of the upright Japanese Maples and rightfully so. Very hardy and reliable, not demanding or finicky. Prefers full sun, tolerates a half day of sun and will survive in less but it will thin out considerably. Gorgeous deep red foliage color, beautiful fall color. Grows 15 - 20 feet tall and can be equally wide or even wider, but grows relatively slowly. Lower branches grow somewhat horizontally making for branches that interfere with play, mowing and any other plants underneath the canopy - so set back properly to account for low branches. Perhaps the best way to bring medium-size, red foliage into the landscape.
